Bajo el lema “Despierta en un mundo mejor”, la cadena presentó en la última edición de FITUR las nuevas estrategias sostenibles de la marca. Después de lanzar las Ecomeetings en diciembre del 2009, NH ofrece ahora carga gratuita de coches eléctricos, calculadora online de CO2 y botellas de plástico de corta vida.
NH Hoteles ha instalado puntos de recarga rápida gratuitos para coches eléctricos -en España el NH Eurobuilding de Madrid será el primero-, y una calculadora de emisiones de CO2 en la Web de la cadena, para aquellos huéspedes que deseen compensar sus emisiones en cualquiera de las de 60.000 habitaciones de NH.
Destacan también los amenities Agua de la Tierra oxobiodegradables en todos los hoteles de la compañía, en 24 países. En vez de la tradicional botella de plástico, NH Hoteles ofrece botellas fabricadas con polímeros oxo-biodegradables, que incorporan poliofelina, un aditivo natural a base de metales iónicos y el aditivo dw2.
La poliofelina acelera el proceso de degradación natural de los materiales, de manera que éstos se descomponen en un periodo entre 2 y 7 años en lugar de invertir en este proceso cientos de años. También, otros elementos como las bolsas de lavandería o los nuevos bolígrafos y envases de apariencia plástica, utilizan este tipo de material o fibras de almidón de patata.
Tras anunciar en diciembre pasado el nacimiento de las Ecomeetings, estas nuevas propuestas llegan acompañadas de alianzas con plataformas internacionales como International Tourism Partnership o los programas GreenLight y Green Building de la UE, así como propias iniciativas como el Club de Proveedores Sostenibles, creado hace dos años.
Con la aplicación de éstas y otras medidas ambientales del plan estratégico, la cadena ha obtenido descensos acumulados desde 2007 del 14 % de los consumos de energía, y del 24 % de agua. El ratio de consumo por estancia y cliente ha descendido en más del 7% en uso de energía, del 15% de agua y del 9% en las emisiones de CO2 por cliente alojado en los hoteles.
